      A program for 6th and 7th grade boys designed to sharpen basic skills to help prepare for 8th grade and the TACHS Examination (Test for Admission to Catholic High Schools)and instill qualities of Christian leadership.  Interested students may apply through their schools. Further information will be forwarded before the beginning of the program.

WHEN:             Classes begin on MONDAY, JULY 7TH TO FRIDAY, AUGUST 1ST

                  from 8:45 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.(Please arrive by 8:30 A.M. on July 7TH)

     

WHERE:            CATHEDRAL PREP: located about 2 blocks away from the intersection of Woodhaven Blvd. and Queens Blvd.  At this intersection is the Queens Center (Macy’s, Penny's...). The LOCAL SUBWAY STATION is at this intersection: WOODHAVEN BLVD/SLATTERY PLAZA: V and R trains. Cathedral Prep is IN BACK OF THE QUEENS CENTER, across the street, on the corner of 57th Avenue & 92 Street.    The following buses stop in the area: Q 11,29,38,53,60,72,88;B 58 and 59. If there is a question, call the Transit Authority for subway and bus information. In addition, check the front section of the Yellow Pages for a subway map. Subway and Bus passes will be provided for those eligible.

 

FEE:        $500 per student for the entire 4-week program by check or money order payable to Father Troike Leadership Program. Payment is due with the completed application, no later than Wednesday, June 11, 2008.

 

PROGRAM:    Each day begins at 8:45 A.M. with a program of study.  There will be six one-half hour periods before lunch (12 Noon) on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.  Supervised sports clinics follow lunch at 12:30 P.M.  On Wednesday, there will be four one-half hour periods following Community Mass.  ALL ACTIVITIES END EACH DAY AT 2:00 P.M.  The faculty is composed principally of priests and lay teachers who staff Cathedral Prep.  Our Cathedral students serve as counselors.

 

COURSES:    7th Grade Courses: English Grammar and Composition - Reading Comprehension – Math -Speech, Discussion, Study Skills & TACHS Preparation - Science – Religion

 

            6th Grade Courses: English – Math – Religion – Speech, Discussion, Study Skills– Science – Social Studies – Computers - Culture

 

SPORTS CLINICS: (Basketball, Softball, and other activities): Because these

form an integral part of the program, all students must participate in them unless excused for medical reasons.

 

ATTENDANCE: The nature of our program requires a student to be in attendance every day.  If the family plans an outing, please notify us in writing the dates your son will be absent. In case of illness, parents are asked to call the office number 592-6800 x105 before 9:00 A.M.  PLEASE NOTE:  Daily attendance will be taken. Prolonged absence is not in the student's best interest.

 

PREPARATION: EACH DAY: The student should wear sneakers, shorts and T-shirt. He should bring a notebook, pen and lunch. Soda and snacks will be sold in the cafeteria. Bottled water is on sale before school and is permitted in the classroom.
